Since the surprise emergence of new director Chris Wietz for Twilight’s squeal New Moon it seems more surprises might be in store for Twilight fans. At first when Robert Pattinson was cast in the film fans were so upset at the casting choice but now since seeing the film they couldn’t imagine it any other way. Since the second book deals with a more mature and grown up character for Jacob Black Summit Films has been contemplating on whether or not to replace Taylor Lautner. If they did Michael Copon would be their next pick. It’s looking very likely that they will recast the character for Jacob Black from what I’m finding out. Look at the Batman films! They replaced the lead role of Batman in almost every film from Michael Keaton to Val Kilmer to George Clooney to Christian Bale. The casting for the Batman empire has gotten better and better and has made more money in every new film that has been released. I do like Taylor a lot but if his character is much older in the next film and more manly, production doesn’t want to waste money on cgi and makeup. They got a new director after all! Tell me your thoughts!
The thing is the character of Jacob doesn’t start to look older until at least half way through New Moon. You need Taylor in at least the first half of the movie or there is no transition which is part of the plot. He can’t start the movie looking older.
Next it’s not like the Batman films that are episodic. You can watch any of those films and they don’t really depend on the others. The batman comics have been around for years with all sorts of plots. Twilight is 4 very specific books that have been released within the last five years. So you are comparing apples and oragnes here.
Last thought. It’s a women thing. Maybe guys don’t give a crap about casting who the new movie hottie is. Women do. Wake up Hollywood, it’s a woman thing!
I agree that maybe somebody should take over to play Jacob, somebody more physically advanced and that could burn some screens with Kristen but Michael Copon is disgusting. His body is beautiful but his face cannot compare to Jacob’s or Taylor’s and his attitude is repulsive. He clearly does not take the role seriously and only “dabbled in the cliff notes on the second and third [book]” He couldn’t even bother to pay attention to the cliff notes people! Taylor and Kristen are endearing to watch in interviews, their friendship and bond is just like Bella’s and Jake’s in the beginning. Taylor just needs to turn on the heat now. Michael Copon is a bad actor and I am severely offended that somebody would even consider letting him be Jacob Black.

Ive read the books and Jacobs character matures changes and grows up alot its jus not the right portrayal as sumone that looks like Taylor he was perfect for New Moon, but in order to portray the changes and maturing that Jacob as a character endures i think that Michael shud be casted without a doubt as the older more mature changed Jacob Black ! im excited hope Michael gets the part ive seen many movies hes been in hes a wonderful actor, altho i love love Taylor he was perfect for TWILIGHT AND IS NOT FIT FOR NEW MOON sowwy Taylor !
I think that what you’re saying is partly right. Jacob matures and they’re going to need a bigger guy for that. Taylor Lautner, he’s great and I love personality, but then will he be enough to play the role of Jacob Black in New Moon? Difficult to debate that. I feel that Taylor Lautner is too a little bit too young for the role of Jacob Black. And um… Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black in the first film wasn’t very… noticeable to me. No offense. I know Taylor’s fans are like upset with this whole stuff… But I think it’s time to change Jacob. Besides! Michael Copon is not a bad actor at all! I mean have you seen him in King Scorpion 2? He was outstanding. And think of it this way, what other actors look like Taylor Lautner besides Michael Copon and Steven Strait. Not very many. I’m pretty good with the decision for a new Jacob.

I believe Taylor is right for the part. Summit cast Ashley Greene for the part of Alice. Alice is meant to be 4ft and I’m sure exactly but Ashley is 5′6.
Taylor is extremely dedictated to the series and I believe he should stay no matter what.
It’s obvious Micheal doesn’t care for the part and is only in it for the fame. I will not see the movie is Micheal is cast and I know many others who will not either.
I am so disappointed that they even started considering Taylor Lautner. They’re biggest money makers are the fans, (like me), and then all of a sudden they are deciding to replace him? ITS LIKE REPLACING ROBERT PATTINSON!

I think that Taylor should keep on playing Jacob. I think that he probably can act like he’s grown older and with the right camera shots you can make him look taller too.
I really hate it when people change actors in films, even if I don’t like the actor(but not in this case.) I really can change the feel of the movie.
